At Shoreline, all full-time and part-time faculty are represented by the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers (SCCFT), Local 1950 and the Faculty Senate and the Faculty Senate. The Union mainly addresses issues related to work conditions, salary, and other contractual issues that arise. The Faculty Senate mainly represents faculty concerning curriculum, instruction and related policies and procedures. Please consider participating in both of these representative bodies. Your ideas and your voice are needed!

Union

SCCFT Local 1950

The SCCFT Local 1950 represents Shoreline CC the faculty when there are questions or concerns related to working conditions and contractual compliance. We are advocates for social justice, equity and human rights in the workforce and in our society as a whole. We are an opt-in Union, meaning you are not required to join. We represent all faculty employees, whether you are a member or not. However, we encourage you to join so that you have the opportunity to vote to elect officers, approve the CBA and to participate in union leadership. When you join SCCFT Local 1950, you automatically become members of the National American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and AFT of Washington (AFTWA).

Senate

The Senate

The purpose of the Shoreline Community College Faculty Senate . . . "is to promote discussion and deliberation related to academic and other faculty concerns that are not a province of any other recognized body on the Shoreline Community College campus. The Senate may act as an advisory body to other groups on campus when input from the entire faculty may be valuable." (Faculty Senate Bylaws)

"Grading procedures will be developed by the Faculty Senate." (College Policy 6260, approved by Board of Trustees 11/12/73)

The Faculty Senate "is generally advisory to the Vice President for Academic Affairs." (SCC Governance Structure, July 1, 1997)

That system uses committees, councils, task forces and other groups that can be broadly categorized as advisory, contractual and governance.
