Dear Faculty,

I want to welcome you to Shoreline Community College. We are elated that you have joined our community.

As you know, the role of the faculty at a college is paramount to the success of our students; not only because you bring expertise in a variety of disciplines and pedagogies to engage and inspire, but also because of the relationships you form with our students. I sometimes kid with colleagues that our students don’t come here because the President is nice, they come here because of the exciting programs, opportunities, and guidance you, the faculty, bring.

Today more than ever, your presence is crucial, not just in the classroom, but in our broader community. With a rising lack of an overall disbelief in science and critical thinking, the role of education and especially higher education could not be more important.

You have come to a campus environment with 80-acres of beautiful indigenous flora. In this environment we value our strong transfer programs, wonderful career training opportunities, and our diverse domestic and international population. This past year I have had the pleasure to meet multiple leaders within this remarkably diverse community who wish to create additional innovative opportunities with the institution. The College is also committed to a DEIA strategic plan where we highlight the opportunity gaps in our region and take action to address them. We are looking forward to engaging in this work with you.

Finally, perhaps the best part about Shoreline Community College is the people. I think you will find our Staff and Administrators genuinely care about the students and the campus in a way that is remarkable. You have joined a committed group of people who want to grow and improve every day to help students achieve their goals.

Welcome! We are excited that you have chosen to join the Shoreline Community College (SCC) student success team. Did you know that SCC has a long history of relationship building, not just within disciplines, but within the surrounding Shoreline Community? Beyond our campus walls, we understand the vital role we play within the broader community, and through meaningful partnerships and outreach initiatives, we aim to enrich the lives of those around us while providing invaluable learning experiences to our students. Your involvement and innovative thinking in these endeavors will not only deepen our connection to the community but also inspire our students to become engaged community partners. That is, our culture is centered on collaboration, inclusivity, and in general, providing a safe space for all staff, faculty, and our diverse student community. This approach not only fosters creativity, but also the determination of providing our students with the most current and innovative technologies. Here at SCC, we embrace the diversity of our students, staff, and faculty, and thus have set up programs to help you navigate, as needed, the tools needed to support and encourage our students so that they can succeed in their academic and lifelong goals.

Ultimately, everything we do here is centered on student success. As educators, mentors, and advocates, we are committed to empowering our students to reach their fullest potential. By fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, we provide them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive academically and beyond.
